Calling all princesses who love rainbows and unicorns.
This bath bomb project is great for kids of all ages, and can also be used as a gift or a party favor at your little princess’ birthday party. In mythology the unicorn is often associated with innocence and purity. And, this suggests that they are so pure and wonderful that a unicorn poops rainbows instead of… Well, you get the idea. There is something magical about rainbow unicorn poop!
For this project, you’ll need these main ingredients.
- Baking Soda
- Citric Acid
- Corn Starch
- Coconut Oil
- Soap dye
- Bio-degradable glitter
- RP Silicone Poop Emoji Cake Pan
As far as equipment, go ahead and gather the following items:
- One large glass mixing bowl
- Four medium glass mixing bowls
- A rubber spatula or spoon
- Rubber gloves
- Small craft paint brush
- A spray bottle filled with water
Ok, are you ready? Here we go.
I always start with a clean surface. I use Young Living’s Thieves household cleaner and wipe down the counter top before I start any mixing.
Preheat the oven to 170 degrees, and then add the following to your large glass mixing bowl:
- 2 cups baking soda
- 1 cup citric acid
- 1/2 cup corn starch
Mix all the dry ingredients well, and then add the wet ingredients:
- 6 tablespoons of coconut oil
- 20-30 drops of essential oil of your choice (I used Lavender)
I prefer having the coconut oil in a liquid state when measuring for a project like bath bombs, and it’s warm today, so my coconut oil is already liquid. If you need to melt the coconut oil, just measure out the 6 tablespoons and microwave for a few seconds. It doesn’t take long.
Once the wet ingredients are mixed very well with the dry ingredients, grab the four medium glass bowls, and separate the entire batch into four equal parts. Then one by one, add the soap dye to each bowl. I used 10-15 drops per batch, but you can adjust each color to your liking. Spritz each batch with the spray bottle of water to moisten each batch. When the mixture stays clumped in your palm, you’re ready to add to each cavity.
I angled the unicorn poop mold so that it would help stagger each color. Go one cavity at a time layering each color, and then repeat until the mold is full. Be sure to re-spray each color as needed so that the mixture will pack properly. Do not over water, or the mixture will start to activate and bubble. Repeat until each cavity is full. Press each bath bomb down into the mold to ensure that you don’t have any air pockets on the inside.
Then place your silicone mold on a cookie sheet and place in the oven. Go head and turn the oven off, and let the oven cool with your unicorn poop bath bombs inside. Leave the batch in there for 45 minutes.
If you have more mixture left over, grab something to make some additional bath bombs for yourself. Some great items that make good bath bomb containers are silicone cookie molds, silicone cupcake molds, or even dixie cups.
After the oven has cooled down, take the cookie sheet out and slowly remove each one from the mold. I flipped the mold over onto the cookie sheet and slowly tugged on the edges of the mold to get the bath bombs to release. After pulling on each side, they slowly fall out and you can lift up the mold revealing the bath bombs. Aren’t the precious??
Place them gently on a flat surface so you can add the glitter. Of course unicorn poop has glitter! Lightly brush each unicorn bath bomb with the bio-degradable glitter. Make sure the glitter is bio-degradable. Regular glitter is not good for the drain.
These are now ready to be packaged for your birthday party or event.
I hope you enjoyed making these as much as I did. If you decide to make this project, be sure to send me pictures.
